Dilemma #5

June 3, 1805
You and your men form a camp at the junction of two rivers. You have yet to reach the Great Falls of the Missouri that the Native Americans told you about. Which river is the Missouri? A mistake at this point in the journey would disappoint the entire Corps: it could even defeat the expedition.
You decide to scout both rivers on foot. The north fork is deeper than the south; it current is not as swift, but its water run in the same boiling and rolling manner as the Missouri. The south fork is very rapid, with smooth round stones like most river coming from a mountainous country.
You become convinced that the branch you scouted, the northern branch, travels much too far to the north for a route to the Pacific. You return the next day to the fork.
It continues to rain through the night. Everyone is disagreeable and restless. The rain has not stopped. The ground is slippery; no one is able to walk on the sides of the bluffs. The ground is clay, making the water saturation difficult and the ground slippery.
As you were walking along the face of one of the bluffs you slip and almost fall ninety feet. You manage to  save yourself with your espontoon. Suddenly you hear Windsor cry out, “Good god Captain, what shall I do?” He too has slipped and fallen. He is lying on his belly, with one hand. One foot is holding on to the edge of the cliff.
Knowing the clay is slippery, how will you attempt to save Windsor? Provided you all survive this experience, which river will you take – the north or the south?

  1. June 3rd, 1805- We would lower a rope down, or something he can grab on too. Then we would all pull him up. But if that doesn’t work, we would tie the rope to the end of his foot or body, then get something very strong to pull him up. We are choosing to take the North river because it seems safer. And there less chances of getting severely hurt. Although there could be a river current, it’s still safer for everyone.

  2. using your resources find a branch or a rope or a vine so you can lower it and windsor can grab onto it then if all of us pitched in we all could pull him and get him out. north river because the way it sounds it sounds much safer and will cause less havocking terror on the way to our destination

Hailei’s thoughts: try to help him by tying some rope to your espontoon, sticking it into the ground as far down as you can and trying to walk or swing over to him and grab him.
Austins thoughts: through a rope if he gets it then great if he doesn’t then let him die.
Amandas thoughts: she thinks we need to get a rope or stick and lay on youre belly and pull up and she thinks we need to go on the north.
Tristans thoughts: I think we let wemser fall because he should wach where he steps.
    Canaghers thoughts: let him die.
Decision: to go back with rope and save him and to go north.
    My thoughts: I agree now.
Louis and clark desishion: they went north
Problem: the group is in slippery stuf one of the people fall and get stuck on a cliff should we help and we don’t know wich is the missory river go north or south.

  4. Are group deicided that we would go north. It is a better chance that you won't fall and it is save.We didn't go south because it is more slippery and less save. We would save windsor by getting are strongest men to put a rope down there and pull him up. Lewis and Clark desision was to to north.
